About Us
Based on the corner of 5th and Read downtown Greenville, North Carolina, sits a 2 story brick building that’s been home to thousands of skateboarders, musicians, artists, activists, etc for the past 3 decades. On November 1st, 1994 Backdoor Skate Shop opened its doors for the first time, partially due to a line of kids skating a bump in the sidewalk next to the building. When asked where they got their skateboards, they said that they had to get stuff from CCS mail order due to not having a local skateboard shop and that the closest shops were a few hours away. Backdoor skate shop was born. Since that fateful day back in November of 1994 Backdoor Skate shop has taken pride to be supporting the Greenville Skateboard scene as well as being a supporter/participant in helping to promote and support the North Carolina Skateboarding scene. Since we first opened our doors in 1994 Backdoor skate shop has brought many 1sts to Greenville including the first Professional demos to town, hosting benefit events for the battered women’s shelter, the local food bank as well as the local soup kitchen, clothing drives for the homeless, public park clean ups as well as many other events. We take pride in our community as well as our scene and do our best to promote a positive, inclusive environment for everyone. For over 30 years, we’ve maintained not only our reputation for being one of the longest living core skate shops in America, but also for our commitment to giving back to skateboarding any chance that we can.
If you’re ever in the area swing through and say what’s up!
Keep on Skating,
Backdoor Skate Shop
